010 A Journey with Only One Survivor: Your Business or Your Marriage

Feb 27, 2019

It begins with a single request. Something simple, like proofreading an email. Or something that doesn’t even resemble helping with the business, like watching the kids while you work late a few nights.

And after your spouse has agreed to help you a few times, requesting his help becomes easier and easier. Until, one day, you ask him to take a vacation day so he can monitor the chat box during your next webinar or take the kids to school while you travel to a live event.

And then, before you know it, you hear yourself utter the words, “You know what would be amazing? If you could join the business and we could work together.”

Once you and your spouse decide to work together, you cross a point of no return where one of two outcomes is possible:

  1. Your supporting spouse will become your couple cofounder

Or

  1. You just started a journey with only one survivor: your business or your marriage

In today’s episode, Nikole opens up about why she started her environmental consulting firm, Peak Science Communications, and the early days of running the business with her ex-husband. Nikole also talks candidly about the last year her husband and her worked together, and the events that led to their separation.

Then, Jay and Nikole tell you how they aligned their vision for the company and built Peak Science Communications to an annual revenue of $1.3 million in a single year and how they have maintained a 7-figure business since.
